Adapted from the original Mercedes Geländewagen military off-roader, its hulking cubist shape originally served a utilitarian function. To this day, the G63’s rough-road prowess remains a distinguishing characteristic amongst other ultra-luxury SUVs, but modern tech, refined interior luxury, and a beastly 577-hp twin-turbo V-8 ensure that it isn’t hurting for either glamor or speed. The trade-off for rugged military DNA is a slightly truckish on-road driving experience, but you don’t buy a G63 for refined driving dynamics.
